The region’s first home security exhibition and conference gets under way today in the Abu Dhabi.

More than 140 specialist companies from 20 countries are taking part in the International Security National Resilience (ISNR) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

Delegations from 33 countries have been invited. On display will be a range of equipment and technology aimed at counter terrorism, intelligence and threat assessment, border and transport security, critical infrastructure protection, emergency preparedness and crisis management and response.

Reed Exhibitions Middle East, the main organisers of the event, said the region’s security market will be worth more than Dh7.7 billion this year. It will grow by more than 50 per cent to reach Dh11.8bn in 2013. In 1998 security spending in the region was about Dh2.9bn.

“ISNR is the first event of its kind in the region,” said Brigadier Matar Salem Al Neyadi, chairman of the organising committee.

“It addresses the growing need for sophisticated equipment to counter international terrorism, protect national borders and build enough resilience to respond to disasters, whether natural or the result of terrorist acts.”

The exhibition occupies 13,400 sq m of space and features national pavilions from the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Germany. Exhibitors from 16 other countries are taking part. About 8,000 trade visitors are expected to attend.
