Are you an aspiring DJ, producer or general music-making extraordinaire? Then don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: the chance to attend the 10th world-renowned Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA).

An annual fortnight-long school for budding musicians, DJs and producers from around the world, the RBMA jets 60 successful applicants to a new location every year. Last autumn, it was Toronto, Canada; this year, they are heading to Barcelona in Spain.

During the course, which will start this September, students will receive practical music tuition in world-class facilities as well as lectures from respected figures in their respective arenas, along with, of course, opportunities to collaborate and make music with their fellow students.

Charl Chaka, a local DJ in the UAE, editor of dance magazine Infusion, as well as part of the RBMA, told Emirates Business: “The RBMA will see 60 beat makers and selectors gather in Barcelona to pick up ideas and exchange information with some of the most happening music makers of all ages and persuasions.

“From funk to folk, rock to rap, Barcelona will be jumping for days and nights as the champions of each genre explain what they do and why they do it, while at the same time being able to showcase their talents using some of the best equipment and recording facilities.”

Applications are taken from all over the world, creating a diverse mix of music-minded people. If you are serious about your music career, then you don’t want to miss this event.

And that is not all. The RBMA online radio station will also be broadcasting shows live from the event, with on-demand material being posted during each term, so it is a great opportunity to showcase your work to the world. Log on to www.rbmaradio.com to check out previous examples of students’ work.

Meanwhile, the RBMA hosted a two-day workshop at Dubai’s SAE institute last week with musician and producer Om’mas Keith and RBMA lecturer Marco Passarani in attendance. Don’t worry if you missed it, because you can still apply to the Academy.

To be in with a chance of joining Chaka and company in the Catalan city, all you have to do is visit www.redbullmusicacademy.com, and download the application form.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and available to take part in one of the two academic terms: September 21 to October 3, or October 12 to October 24. Send the completed application form back with a mix-CD of your music as well as a current photo before May 5.

Applicants will learn by July 7 whether or not they have been successful in being invited to Barcelona. Flights and accommodation will be provided by the RBMA.
