DM permit a must for waste disposal jobs
Dubai Municipality has issued a circular to all companies and establishments involved in economic activities related to waste management in the emirate on the need to apply for a permit for their activities from the Waste Management Department of the Municipality.
The circular applies to both categories of applicants – those who are renewing the existing licences as well as those obtaining new licences from the Economic Development Department.
According to Hassan Makki, Director of Waste Management Department at the municipality, the move is part of the commitment of Dubai Municipality to create a healthy and safe environment and its endeavour to devote efforts in developing and implementing more efficient and effective solutions to achieve sustainable management of waste in the emirate, based on the Local Order No 11 of 2003 on public health and safety of the community.
He said non-compliance with the directives could lead to legal sanctions and different administrative procedures, including fines, and cancelling business licence and the closure of the violating establishment.
Makki said Dubai Municipality has adopted the concept of leadership and excellence in the performance of its functions and roles aimed at creating a city that provides the essence of success and comfort of living. This will help Dubai become a city of business. This will entail focusing on various types of municipal works, including managing the issues of waste to ensure the protection of the environment and society from the dangers of waste.
Makki said the municipality leadership has formulated a clear mission, systems and values and developed a plan to achieve strategic objectives.
