A fire broke out yesterday at the Downtown Burj Dubai construction site off Sheikh Zayed Road.

Developer Emaar said a temporary transformer operated by the Dubai Water and Electricity Authority caught fire. "There was a fire within the construction site of the Downtown Burj Dubai area due to a temporary Dewa transformer catching fire," said an Emaar spokesman. "The transformer provided power to the surrounding construction area. Authorities are working on restoring power," he said.

Emaar emergency personnel and Dubai Civil Defence team were working to deal with the situation, he said.

"There have been no injuries and no damage to property. Emaar has safety initiatives and monitoring mechanisms in place to ensure safety of personnel and property during construction."
