The Headmaster of Dubai College, Carlo Ferrario, yesterday announced he has resigned from his post. The resignation is effective at the end of the current academic year.

Ferrario said the principal reason for his decision was the "intervention from external agencies in the operation of the school reaching levels that, in my view, compromise its independence and with which I do not feel comfortable as a headmaster".

He claimed the college's independence is gradually being eroded and with it the ability to develop in a manner which best fits its mission

"While school inspection is important and I applaud it, I believe the system of inspection that has been adopted in Dubai presents more disadvantages than benefits for schools such as Dubai College. It is not a regime with which I feel able to work," Ferrario said.

The Board of Governors has set in motion the process for appointing a new head teacher and will announce the name as soon as an appointment has been made.
