Dubai police arrest two suspects over slaying of former Chechen rebel
Dubai
’s police chief says two suspects have been arrested in connection with last week’s slaying of a former Chechen rebel.
Sulim Yamadayev was shot on March 28 in Dubai in a brazen daylight killing. He was a bitter adversary of Chechnya’s powerful Moscow-backed leader.
Police Chief Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim says an Iranian and a Tajik are in custody and that four other suspects are at large. He also told a news conference on Sunday that one of those in custody has implicated a senior official in Chechnya’s government.
Yamadayev’s killing is the first politically-motivated slaying in Dubai and the latest in a series of brazen assassinations targeting Chechen renegades in and outside of Russia.
