Identity card mandatory by year end

Identity cards are a must by the end of this year, said Major General Nasser Al Menhali, Assistant Director-General of Naturalisation and Residency.

The official urged the public to use the grace period stipulated by the Ministry of Information for UAE nationals and residents to obtain and accept the ID card.

The grace period will lapse by the end of this year, he noted.

Al Menhali said ID cards will be used to streamline and speed up all the ministry's services, including issuance of passports, investment licences, licences for private security companies, announcement of tender calls, issuance of firearms licences as well as certificates of compliance with civil defence security and safety requirements.
