The 2008 Inspire Dubai Awards took place this week, where the UAE's unsung heroes were honoured in a special ceremony.

This year's honours went to Habiba Al Marashi (Environmental Achiever of the Year), Muhannad Al Jazireh (Lifesaver of the Year), Dana Nashawati (Young Achiever of the Year), Callum Woods (Child of Bravery), Jalal Jamal Binthaneya (Fundraiser of the Year), Janet Webber (Educator of the Year), Afra Al Basti, Gulshan Kavarana, Elle and Roger Trow (Guardian of the Year), Katy Newitt (Inspiring Personality of the Year), Joy Jones (Special Recognition Award), and Mohammed Al Reyaysa (Lifetime Achievement Award).

The Inspire Dubai initiative presents the city with the opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary deeds of its citizens; those who go beyond the call of duty to provide hope and inspiration to others.

The general public had the opportunity to nominate individuals online, with the nominess then assessed by a panel of community leaders to determine the winners.
