The world's tallest tower is now one of the smallest works of art.

San Francisco's native Steven J Backman has been designing miniature sculptures from toothpicks since he was a child.

What turned out to be his hobby soon turned in to a passion for creating miniatures of world famous monuments, including the Empire State Building and a 13-ft-long likeness of the Golden Gate Bridge.

His latest work of art is the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world standing tall at 828 metres.

In an interview with DubaiCityGuide.com, he said: "The miniature replica of Burj Khalifa took me seven hours to create and a bucket of patience. As far as I know, it is the world's smallest replica of the world's tallest building."

He is now working on a series of modern abstract toothpick sculptures. Some of these works can be seen on dubaicityguide.com.
