The President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan performed the funeral prayers for Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday afternoon.
Sheikh Ahmed died when a glider he was travelling in crashed into a lake behind Saidi Mohammed bin Abdullah Dam in Morocco last Friday.
The funeral was held after the Asr prayer at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah; His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain; His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman; Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President's Representative, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince; Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance; Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah; Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain and Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman also offered funeral prayers alongside the President.
Others who joined the funeral prayers included the Crown Prince and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Head of the Omani delegation Alsayed Harib Bin Thuwaini Al Said.
A number of sheikhs, ministers, high-ranking officials, citizens, residents and ambassadors of Arab and Muslim countries also joined the prayers.
After the prayers, the body was taken to Al Bateen burial ground, where the deceased was laid to rest.
