Up and coming UAE nationals working in radio, television and print media have been recognised for their talents and awarded cash at the first Sheikh Majid Youth Media Awards.

Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, handed the top prize in the respective categories to Ahmed Ali Alkhwar, Sara Rafeea and Hawaa Al Souyadi. The top award came with Dh200,000, and the second and third place winners in each category were awarded Dh75,000 and Dh50,000 respectively. He also called for the creation of a specialised media training centre for UAE nationals.

Organised by Arab Media Group (AMG), the largest media organisation in the UAE and publisher of Emirates Business, and investment company Dubai Infinity Holdings, the ceremony was held at Dubai World Trade Centre on Wednesday. Abdullatif Al Sayegh, CEO of AMG, said: "The high participation levels coupled with the number of entries has prompted Sheikh Majid to assess the viability of creating a venue for these talented youth to help them pursue industry knowledge and eventually grow a strong network of national journalists. We welcome his recommendation, and aim to conduct a market study at the earliest to expedite the project." (Wam)
