An initiative to cut the hospitality industry's carbon emissions by 20 per cent by 2011 has been launched by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
Director-General Khalid A bin Sulayem called on the sector to take action to reduce its CO2 output. The aim is to achieve sustainable growth of Dubai's tourism industry
The initiative – one of the DTCM's corporate social responsibilities (CSRs) – focuses on the conservation of natural resources and the sensible use of energy, water and gas. The scheme is the first of its kind in the region.
Bin Sulayem said the plan was in line with the drive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to turn the emirate into a green and environmentally responsible community.
