Number plate auction fetches Dh44 million

Revenue from the 14th auction of number plates, held on Saturday at Emirates Palace, fetched Dh44 million. It was 25 per cent more than the previous auction.

Organisers said number 8 was sold for Dh8m, thereby entering the Diamond List of the most expensive 10 numbers in the world. It gained equal footing with number 11 launched by the Dubai Police earlier.

Colonel Salim Ali Al Shamsi, Director of Privatisation and Resources Development at Abu Dhabi Police, said the auction witnessed healthy competition. The numbers which fetched high prices were: number 77 got Dh4m; number 34 fetched Dh2,650,000; number 43 fetched Dh2,050,000; number 58 got Dh2,050,000; number 888 fetched Dh1,300,000; number 88888 fetched Dh1,250,000.
