Oil tanker on fire off Dubai port

Dubai’s port operator says an oil tanker is on fire after striking a container ship in a shipping channel at the city’s Jebel Ali Port.

DP World spokeswoman Sarah Lockie says no casualties have been reported. Civic authorities have been alerted.

She says crews are trying to contain the blaze and determine how to clear the channel.

Clouds of smoke could be seen rising from the area of collision. The port is on the southwestern end of the emirate, in the direction of Abu Dhabi.

Lockie says the container vessel is a medium-sized ‘feeder ship’.
