The UAE has pledged $300 million (Dh1,100m) to Pakistan over two years, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced at a donors' conference for the troubled country in Tokyo.

Sheikh Abdullah, praising Pakistan's government for its efforts to achieve stability, said the money was in line with the instructions of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Abdullah commended Japan for hosting the conference. "Our presence at the conference signals the UAE's support to Pakistan", he said.

"There are developmental programmes presented by Pakistan," he said, adding there were opportunities to be taken to develop the region. "Before achieving that security, stability of Pakistan should be restored. The Army undergoes sacrifices unnoticed sometimes by media."
