Abu Dhabi will have the region's first plant for manufacturing shotshell calibers for the local market and exports, said an official at the Offset Programme Bureau.

Abdullah Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Projects Manager of the bureau's Offset Ventures Unit, told Emirates Business, the plant will be built by Remaya, a subsidiary of Tawazun Holding, and will be operational in 2011.

"The plant will have a capacity of six million rounds a year and will be further increased with the rise in demand. It will produce the first UAE-branded hunting shot gun ammunitions," he said.

Al Qubaisi said the there is a growing demand for the ammunitions at the same time when there is a shortage as well. "Many shooting clubs and private shooting ranges forced to shut in the region due to shortage of these calibers. There is no manufacturing plant in the entire Gulf and Mena region. This plant will help save these clubs and shooting ranges," he said.

Remaya was established early this year to provide local shooting clubs, private and military ranges with products and services ranging from maintenance to operation and management.

Al Qubaisi said their private client is Abu Dhabi-based Caracal Shooting Club and the Al Ain Palm Resort has approached the company and will soon be on board.

"Lots of clubs and ranges have approached us for acquiring our services. Sheikhs and other businessmen have also shown interest and approached Remaya for providing services for their private shooting ranges," he said.

About Remaya's services, Al Qubaisi said the company, in addition to providing products and full solution services, also provides shooting training and consultancy services and organises professional shooting events.
