A key part of Phase III of Ras Al Khor Interchange Project was opened by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently, which links inbound traffic from the Business Bay Crossing to Al Khail Road.

Metha bin Adai, CEO of Roads and Traffic Agency, described the project, which was launched in February 2006 at a cost of Dh613 million, as "one of the key stages in the Ras Al Khor Project that extends from the Airport Tunnel to the first interchange at Sheikh Zayed Road".

The project covers the opening of the Oud Metha Bridge [South] for inbound traffic from the Business Bay Crossing towards the junction of Bu Kadreh – Al Khail Road. Work is up and running to complete the entire project by the end of this year, Bin Adai said.

Phase III of the project, which spans from the Business Bay Crossing to Al Khail Road, includes construction of a main road as an extension of Al Khail Road extending five kilometres with five lanes in each direction.

It also includes two main interchanges at the junction of the Business Bay Crossing and Oud Metha Road, and an underpass on Za'abeel Road.

"This project completes a master plan for traffic currently being implemented. Phase I, Phase II and a part of Phase III, which extends from the Airport Tunnel across the Business Bay Crossing to Oud Metha Road at Za'abeel interchange, were opened last year. The project is scheduled for completion later this year," he said.

The RTA intends to complete the project at a cost of Dh450m. The roads range from two- to five-lane ones, with a length of 18km. Five key crossings will also be constructed passing over the Creek Canal so that a link is completed between the Business Bay Crossing and both Al Doha and Al Khail Roads from one side, and Oud Metha Road from the other.
