The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will build a traffic underpass near Rashid Hospital at a cost of Dh705 million, the authority has announced.
In a session chaired by its Chairman and Executive Director Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA's board took the decision to build the underpass as part of an integrated project to curb traffic congestion in the vicinity of Rashid Hospital. It is envisaged that the intake of the roads in the area will rise to 6,000 vehicles per hour upon completion of the project.
The RTA board's decision was also in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the authority said.
Al Tayer said: "The project involves construction of two underpasses, each consisting of two lanes, to serve traffic from Tariq bin Zayed and Umm Hurair roads towards the junction of Al Riyadh Road and the extension of the Floating Bridge. The first underpass extends from Tariq bin Zayed Road and passes underneath Al Maktoum Bridge, while the second extends from Umm Hurair Road across Oud Metha Park."
The two underpasses then converge, forming a four-lane underpass towards Al Riyadh Road across Rashid Hospital, added Al Tayer.
