Enoc is to introduce self-service at 10 petrol stations in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

The pilot project will begin at three sites in Dubai and seven in the Northern Emirates on August 12.

"We are pleased to be introducing this new initiative for our customers," said a spokesman. "The self-service option is simple. Customers need to park in front of the pump, switch off the engine, enter the C-store and pay for their fuel after giving the pump number. The cashier will then hand over a receipt for the payment and the customer can go back to the pump, take the nozzle out and fill up. The pump will automatically stop when the authorised amount is dispensed and the customer can then replace the nozzle."

The self-service system will allow payment by cash only. As a safety measure smoking and the use of mobile phones while filling up are strictly forbidden.

Instructions for the new service have been displayed at the 10 stations and information leaflets are being distributed to customers. The self-service option does not cover convenience store purchases or carwash and quick oil change operations.
