Sheikh Mohammed sets up federal education council
According to the resolution, the Minister of Education Dr Hanif Hassan will chair the new body with the director-general of the Ministry of Education as its secretary-general.
Members of the council include directors of local education councils and two representatives from the private education sector.
Dr Hassan termed the council as one of the ambitious national pilot projects aimed at upgrading the learning process in the country. "The council will work to implement joint programmes between the ministry and other educational bodies seeking to improve educational output and develop human resources. The formation of the council was inspired by the vision that the country's wise leadership has to reflect the federal government's proper care to education," said Dr Hassan.
The minister said the federal government's strategy is aimed at making a qualitative leap in education to bring it on a par with the best international standards.
The council, he said, would co-ordinate for the better implementation of educational policies to ensure they met the aspirations of development plans and local communities.
"The council will offer advice on bills, policies and activities related to education and give its recommendations for socio-economic development.
"It will encourage building partnerships with the private sector so that it can contribute to socio-economic and educational development," said Dr Hassan.
The council will also work to standardise databases and statistics on local and federal levels to ensure smooth flow of information for planners, executives and decision-makers. (Wam)
