UAE, KSA smoothen border trade

The Joint UAE-Saudi Committee has agreed to overcome barriers to trade and boost co-ordination and direct communication among their liaison and customs officials to combat cross-border contraband.

Director of Legal Affairs at the UAE Federal Customs Ahmed Mohammed Al Bakr said the joint committee, which concluded its first meeting yesterday in Dubai, also agreed to resume, at its next meeting, talks on the issue of counterfeit commodities and measures to tackle it.

Suspects in any contraband cases are referred by the Saudi side to the relevant judicial authorities and the Customs Committee takes necessary measures based on the verdict, said Al Bakr.
