Classes in government schools for the academic year 2009-2010 have been postponed to after the holy month of Ramadan, according to Wam.

Education officials announced that public schools will open on September 23. The UAE government took the decision to delay the start of the new session in September after considering the impact of the holy month of Ramadan on students as well as the hot and humid weather during that time of the year.

Recently His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, asked a question on his Facebook page, on whether the school year should begin after the Eid holidays. He received huge response from both parents and students saying that it would be better to start the term after Ramadan and Eid.

Sheikh Mohammed thanked all respondents and posted a message saying:  "I appreciate these opinions and insights from such a wide diversity of people in our society."
