A bomb attached to a bicycle exploded outside the office of an election candidate in southwestern Pakistan Tuesday, wounding nine people including four journalists, police said.

The blast happened as an independent candidate in February 18's general elections, Sardar Aslam Bizenjo, addressed a press conference at his office in the town of Khuzdar, local police chief Hamid Shakil said.

"Someone parked a bicycle outside Bizenjo's office which exploded during his press conference," Shakil told AFP.

The candidate was unhurt, he said, adding that the injured had been rushed to hospital.

A wave of bomb blasts has gripped the country ahead of the elections, claiming the lives of about 100 people so far this year.

A suicide car bomber killed several people in an attack on an election candidate's convoy in a northwestern tribal town on Monday, fuelling fears about the increasingly bloody campaign for the polls. (AFP)
