The names of three short-listed nominees have been announced in each category for the seventh edition of regional awards honouring excellence in media.

In announcing the nominations for the Arab Journalism Awards ahead of the prestigious event, Dubai Press Club has made a departure from its previous editions, saying it was committed to transparency in the selection of winners.
The short-listed nominees were selected by a jury panel comprising of 42 distinguished media personalities from across the Arab World, with three to five judges allocated to each category. Investigative reporting received the largest number of entries for the awards, followed very closely by press interviews and political journalism.
The panel did not nominate any entry in the sports journalism category.
The names of the final winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on Thursday. Maryam bin Fahad, executive director, Arab Journalism Award, said: “The jury committee was highly appreciative of the entries from 18 Arab countries, which reflects the creativity and professional standards of these important awards.

“We have always been conscious of our role in recognising deserving media personalities for their contributions to the industry. In this regard, we pursue a stringent process of selection. The decision to announce the list of nominees ahead of time validates the values of transparency that we hold as a responsible and pioneering media event.”

Pointing out that the number of entries received has climbed every year to a huge 2,609 this year, Maryam said the enthusiastic response reflects the stature of the price among Arab journalists.

She added: “Arab journalists are convinced the awards acknowledge their high standards of professional accomplishment. Given the extensive reach of the Arab Journalism Awards, winners are also aware of the wide exposure their work stands to gain, not just among their industry counterparts but the world at large.”
