Over a week after a ceasefire was declared, violence sparked anew in Gaza, according to media reports.

Local medics have confirmed that a Palestinian, who was believed to be a farmer, was killed by Israeli fire in the area.

The exchange was the bloodiest since the ceasefire was declared on January 18. Al Arabiya television said one soldier was killed and three were wounded. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum declined to comment on who might have attacked the troops.

In response to the attack, Israel has shut down the crossing points through which humanitarian aid and other supplies flow. About 1.5 million people of Gaza depend on aid supplies. Aid agencies have been urging Israel to ease restrictions on trade to help rebuild thousands of homes destroyed in the offensive.
