The problem of delay faced by UAE-bound trucks carrying food across the Saudi border has been resolved, officials said yesterday.

Sources at the Emirates' Al Ghuwaifat crossing said queues of trucks stretched 20km back into the kingdom for the past two months. The problem triggered calls from federal customs officials for Saudi Arabia to take urgent action to speed up official inspections at the crossing, as previously reported.

Yesterday, Saeed Khalifa Saeed Al Marri, Deputy Director-General of the Federal Customs Authority, told Emirates Business: "The Al Ghuwaifat border centre informed the UAE yesterday that the crisis is being solved." He said this has been done by reducing the time needed for inspections from three days to one. The crossing time will be reduced to a few hours soon.

He revealed that Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, talked to his Saudi counterpart to find a solution.
