UN chief urges Israel to end Gaza blockade
The United Nations chief, Ban Ki-moon, crossed into the Gaza Strip yesterday, expressing solidarity with the plight of the Palestinians and urging an end to an Israeli blockade of the Hamas-run territory.
Ban was making his second visit to the Gaza Strip since the 22-day Gaza War ended in January 2009 as part of a regional tour aimed at reviving the peace process.
Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers shot and killed two Palestinians yesterday at an army check post near the West Bank city of Nablus after they tried to allegedly stab a soldier.
