The second day of the bi-annual ‘Women as Global Leaders’ conference highlighted the role women’s organisation play in the UAE’s progress.

The speakers called for women to be active participants in their destiny.

Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women’s Establishment and wife of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, said women’s groups are committed to contribute to the country’s development.

The event, organised by Zayed University at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, has brought together several leading international and UAE women’s leaders and more than 2,000 students from 85 countries.

“Women in the UAE must ensure that we assume the responsibility for conceptualising, developing and drawing up women-centric policies, instead of being on the other end of the decision-making spectrum. It is only through adopting such an attitude that we have achieved success in launching programmes that support women and prioritise their issues,” said Sheikha Manal.

Addressing the students of Zayed University, she said: “You are a proud example of what Emirati women should be like. The biggest proof of your worth is your capability to organise such an international event.”

She added: “I am not a pessimist. Being afraid and anxious about the future is not my trait.”

The speech was followed by workshops.
