An agreement to set up the India Trade and Exhibition Centre has been signed by Ahmad Mohammed Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), and Sudesh K Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC).

“We are pleased to see a specialised institution that will not only support the Indian business community in the UAE but also serve all businessmen in India,” said Al Midfa.

“The centre will help further strengthen our ties with India that date back centuries. We are looking for support for the centre from Indian officials to enable the institution to play a role in bolstering trade.”

Aggarwal said: “IBPC believes that setting up such a centre will go a long way towards furthering trade relations between the countries.

“The centre will promote trade and investment between India and the UAE and Middle East and North Africa markets. It will hold exhibitions of Indian products and services on a regular basis and host meetings, conferences and seminars for the Indian business and professional community and visiting delegations.

“In addition it will lease office and exhibition space to Indian Government enterprises and corporations, lease space to local companies providing services to the centre and supply information about Indian products and services.”

The signing ceremony at Expo Centre Sharjah was attended by Indian Consul-General Venu Rajamony and directors of the two UAE-based organisations.

The centre is to be built on a 20,000 square foot site at the SCCI’s new complex. It will consist of a basement and three floors with a total built-up area of 50,000 sq ft.

It is due to be completed within 18 to 24 months and will contain exhibition halls, office space, conference rooms, an auditorium, administrative offices, storage space and a restaurant.
