Second Afghan suicide blast in two days kills policeman

A man detonated a car-bomb near a government compound in eastern Afghanistan Tuesday, killing a policeman in the second such suicide blast in the area in as many days, a district chief said.

The attacker exploded a bomb-laden van after a policemen guarding the compound in Khost province opened fire on him, district chief Badi-Ul Zaman Sabarai told AFP. The policeman was killed.

"It was a suicide attack. One policeman was martyred and nine civilians were injured, and an army soldier was also injured," he said.

The bombing in Tania district was similar to one by Taliban insurgents on Monday in nearby Sabari district that killed two NATO soldiers and two Afghan civilians.

In both cases, the attackers targeted a compound housing district government and security forces.

The insurgent Taliban claimed responsibility for Monday's blast, but the extremist group did not immediately comment on Tuesday's attack. (AFP)
