A repair ship is on its way to Dubai to work on an undersea telecom cable that was cut on Friday.

The break in the Falcon link, which is operated by Flag Telecom of India and  runs from the UAE to Oman, caused disruption to international phone services in the region.

The break came two days after two submarine cables operated by Flag  off the coast of Egypt were severed, disrupting web access across the region. A spokesman for Flag, a wholly-owned subsidiary of India’s Reliance Communications, said the Falcon cable had been reported cut at 9.59am UAE time, 56km from Dubai.

du said: “The cut has impacted international voice calls through the du network. However, du has started rerouting its international voice traffic through some of etisalat’s international routes.
