This is a major piece of Kitt

Here’s a little something that will have young boys jumping up and down with glee, and the older ones reliving the glorious 1980s. A remote control version of the Knight Rider star car can now be yours for a bargain price of Dh200.

With rumours of yet another Knight Rider movie in the pipeline, there has never been a better time to re-visit the days when actor David Hasselhoff was upstaged by a fantastic theme tune, dodgy fashion and a car.

Mind you, it wasn’t just any old car, The Knight Industries Two Thousand, which us normal folk knew as KITT, was a sleek customised Pontiac Trans-Am that was immune to attack, could cruise at 450 kilometres per hour, and was loaded with hi-tech gadgets and gizmos. It could even talk, albeit in an incredibly camp and condescending voice, which was sometimes more amusing than the plot itself.

OK, so the Knight Rider remote control car doesn’t have a molecular bonded shell, nor can it leap through the air – unless you throw it from your balcony, and we don’t recommend that – and of course, it doesn’t come with The Hoff.

However, it can move forwards and backwards, go left and right, and it boasts a turbo-boost function enabling it to speed around your office, house and garden. And if you really miss the car’s German partner in crime, then why not print out a picture of The Hoff and make your very own cool little figurine?

It also features a snazzy red sensor on the hood, identical to the one KITT had on the show, and it even talks when you hit a button on the transmitter, muttering the words: “I am KITT, whom you may regard as the voice of the Knight 2000.” Sweet.

As soon as you get behind the wheel of this beautiful toy – well, play about with the supplied transmitter at least – you’ll be tempted to buy an ill-fitting leather jacket, sign up for a perm and cruise the UAE’s highways fighting crime. Or maybe that’s just us.
