Eminent Islamic scholars from around the world, including Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudals, Imam of the Kaaba at Makkah, will take part in the Dubai International Peace Convention (DIPC) later this month.

The convention is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

"Peaceful co-existence can be achieved only by better understanding [of Islam] and that can be achieved only through education," said a DIPC spokesman.

"World-renowned speakers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, India and many other countries will speak on various topics and will try to remove various misconceptions about Islam."

Hamad Ahmad, Programme Chairman of the convention, said the event was the first of its kind in the Middle East.

Other scholars who will take part include Yusuf Estes and Yasir Qadhi from the US, Abdul Rahman from the UK, Ahmed Hamed and MM Akbar from India, Hussain Yee from Malaysia, Dr Hamed Hussain from Egypt, Said Regeah from Canada and Sheikh Mishary Rashid Al Efasy, Imam and Qari of Kuwait.

The three-day convention will be held at the Dubai Airport Expo from March 18 to 20.

An international Islamic exhibition and seminar called Salvation will be held alongside the convention.

A spokesman said: "Our intention is to clear some misconceptions about Islam, which is now equated with terrorism in the global media.

"Islam is being projected as a religion of terrorism. We are living very peacefully in the Middle East and Salvation will promote the message of peace."
