Dubai Industrial Academy (DIA), a division of Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer has signed an agreement with Dubai Natural Gas Company (Dugas) for training its process operators on troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.

The five-day programme will enhance the process operators' on-the-job analytical skills, while giving them a wider understanding of the mechanism of a gas plant. Utilising plant manuals and plant pipe and instruments drawings, the initiative will highlight solutions for addressing some of the high-risk challenges operators' face on site in the course of their work.

Rashed Al Ansari, Vice-President of Dubai Industrial City, said: "Through its comprehensive and industry specific training progammes, Dubai Industrial Academy aims to increase the competency level of the operational staff and upgrade their working skills. We consider this an imperative necessity given the hazards that plant operators are exposed to in the industry.

"This programme also reflects our objective to support the industrial sector through enhancing the competencies of professionals working in Dubai and across the region, and eventually creating a talent pool of technically qualified personnel."

In the run up to the agreement, Dubai Industrial Academy successfully trained two shifts of Dugas process operators out of six Dugas shifts, each consisting of 12 process operators.

Al Ansari said: "The trainer of this course will leverage his extensive experience in process operations and spend two days on site in Dugas plant for collecting relevant data, ahead of the training programme, to ensure the content is consistent with the plant operators' nature of work."

Dubai Industrial Academy aims to offer more than 250 courses in Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment (QHSE), Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Power Engineering, Instrumentation and Process Control, Chemical Process and Laboratory Operations, Oil and Gas, Construction, Logistics and Transport, as well as in Technical and Supervisory Development.

The first-of-its-kind academy in the UAE, DIA is a dedicated vocational training centre set up by Dubai Industrial City in partnership with the UK-based Technical Training Group (TTE), recognised as a 'Centre of Vocational Excellence' by the UK Government.
