UAE motorists warned of weekend sandstorm

 

The United Arab Emirates warned on Friday that a sandstorm would make driving conditions hazardous in the desert Gulf state over the weekend.

State media reported the meteorological department had advised motorists to take extra caution on Saturday and Sunday because "visibility will be very poor as a result of bad weather caused by a sandstorm".

The warning came after heavy fog caused a multiple traffic pile-up on Tuesday in which three people were killed and 277 injured. Around 200 vehicles were involved in the collision on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road. (AFP)
