Zimbabwe ruling party snubs unity govt: state media

Zimbabwe's ruling party has rejected an approach by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change to join a national unity government following last week's elections, state media said on Sunday.

Patrick Chinamasa, a senior member of President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF party, told the Sunday Mail that the approach had been made last week by two officials of MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai via a businessman.

"Approaches were made by MDC-Tsvangirai to form a government of national unity," said Chinamasa who was Mugabe's justice minister until the elections.

"Although it is unclear in what capacity the emissaries came, Zanu-PF rejected the approaches and this was communicated to the MDC," he added. (AFP)
