Foreign-born Englishmen: Five that played since 2000
Andrew Strauss: Born in South Africa, but grew up in England. The opening batsman qualified to play for the country through an English mother and made his debut in 2003. A phenomenal two-year start to his career made him a regular in the team.
Graeme Hick: Born in Zimbabwe and represented the country; however, the African country's lack of Test status in the 1980s lured him to England. Played 65 Tests for England with the last one in 2001 against Sri Lanka. Still playing county cricket at age 42.
Kevin Pietersen: Born in South Africa, the batsman labelled 'England's greatest' is one of the most controversial of the 'foreign legion' – largely because of provocative comments towards the country of his birth. Now the heart of the England line-up.
Tim Ambrose: Born in Australia, the wicket-keeper is the latest member in the England foreign-born club – making his debut this year. A solid gloveman, but not as assured with the bat he faces a struggle to retain his place.
Matt Prior: Born in Johannesburg, the 26-year-old has lived in England since he was 11. The wicket-keeper made his Test debut in 2007 and impressed with the bat. Several dropped catches, however, have relegated him to the reserves.
