Tri-series postponedsays BCB official

Nizam-Uddin Sujan, acting CEO of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has refuted claims that a tri-series tournament scheduled to be held in Dubai next month has been cancelled – but confirmed the dates will change.

The tournament was set to be held between Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the soon-to-be-opened Dubai Sports City (DSC) cricket stadium as part of an agreement signed last year between Pakistan and DSC.

Sri Lanka, however, are said to be unavailable to tour in March.

"The tournament is not cancelled and we are working to fix a revised date based on the ICC futures programme availability for fixtures," Sujan told Emirates Business by phone from Bang-ladesh. "The organisers have just changed the date." Dubai Sports City could not be reached for comment and are also yet to confirm an announcement by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials last week concerning a One Day International series against Australia to be held in the UAE.

According to the PCB, the two teams are set to play two ODIs in Dubai and three in Abu Dhabi from April 24 to May 7. The two teams will also play Twenty20 games at both grounds.

England are also in contention to host the three Test series between the countries later this year.

World Champions Australia are refusing to tour Pakistan due to safety reasons meaning the games, in order to go ahead as planned, must be played at an agreed neutral venue.
