Tiger takes bite out of Muirfield village

A seven-under 65 on the final day of the Memorial Tournament on Sunday saw Tiger Woods announce he is back just in time for next week's US Open.

The world No1 made up four shots on leader Jonathan Byrd during his last round at Muirfield Village Golf Club, sealing his second tournament in only seven starts since returning in February from an eight-month injury lay-off.

Woods had stuttered in recent weeks, his driver giving him greatest cause for concern as he continued to launch the ball wildly off the tee. But he seems to have corrected the problem with a week to spare.

The 33-year-old hit 14 out of 14 fairways on Sunday, an ominous sign that his 'A' game is coming back as Tiger prepares to continue his hunt for Jack Nicklaus' record Major haul of 18.

Currently on 14, Woods won his eighth at the US Open in 2002, the last time it was staged at Bethpage State Park – the venue for this year's tournament.

In what is typical Tiger, he seems to be back on the prowl at just the right time.
