The largest edition of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair concluded yesterday with sales of Dh37 million, organisers said.
The event was organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach) and Kitab, a joint venture between Adach and Frankfurt Book Fair.
"The fair attracted more than 236,000 visitors from all age groups," said Mohamed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director-General of Adach.
"This session was remarkable as 840 publishers from 63 countries took part in the fair and offered more than 500 titles of the best literary, intellectual, cultural, science and economics books," he added.
More than 150 cultural events took place on the sidelines of the fair. About 1,200 intellectuals, poets, cultural personalities and publishers participated in the programmes where specialised symposia for agents, distributors, booksellers, translators and the public were organised.
The cultural programme included daily events at Kitab Sofa, discussion forum, poetry forum, Unesco Reading Club and Abu Dhabi Literature and Publishers Club. An educational programme brought together more than 250 experts in curriculums and the book industry besides principals and faculty members from UAE schools.
Juma Al Qubaisi, Director of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair and Director of National Library at Adach, said 840 publishing houses displayed more than half a million titles.
