The mother of a five-year-old British boy released in Pakistan after being kidnapped at gunpoint said yesterday he can expect a "big party" when he returns home.

Akila Naqqash spoke to her son Sahil Saeed by telephone earlier in the day from her home in Oldham, near Manchester in northwest England, and said he seemed unperturbed by his ordeal.

"I talked to him on the phone and I thought 'that's my little boy', that's enough for me," she said.

"The way he spoke to me was normal, like a normal little boy."

She said he had asked about his sisters and said how much he was missing his toy.
