The Third Line gallery in Al Quoz presents a group show of the artists on its roster until July 15. Among them are Amir H Fallah, Rana Begum, Abbas Akhavan, Ghadah Al Kandari, Hassan Hajjaj, Pouran Jinchi, Marwan Sahmarani and Shezad Dawood.
Of particular note are Hajjaj's street photos of youngsters in Morocco, which look at Western stereotypes of North Africans. His pictures are finished with a unique kind of product placement, ranging from old batteries to food cans. In this case, recycled bike tyres frame the work.
Fallah's work takes a more personal approach, exploring notions of identity, masculinity and memory with a series exploring the desert landscape that reference Persian miniatures with their ornate, retro-kitsch borders.
Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian's work exhibits a connection to the history of Iranian reverse glass painting and mirror mosaics. It demonstrates a commitment to this traditional craft with the addition of fine art.
