Put on those thinking caps and dust off those tools, because the Red Bull Art of Can contest has just made a comeback in Dubai, and the deadline to submit applications is September 15.
For those who joined in late, this creative contest was launched here in 2006 and aims to explore the hidden Picasso in us by inviting imaginary minds to create "the wittiest work of art" with the aid of a red bull can; yes, it is as simple as that. You can glue, paint, sculpt, photograph or even power point your way to the finish line.
"The purpose of this competition is to challenge people to think out of the box," Dalal Harb, Communications Manager, Red Bull UAE, tells Emirates Business. "This competition is not about attracting professionals, but those with creative flair who aren't afraid to imagine."
Participants can send in as many masterpieces as they like, but only a select few will be put on display before winners are announced. The deadline for submitting your work is October 15, and if it makes the cut, the piece will be exhibited to the public in November when judges select the best designs.
Judging will be based on creativity, theme and presentation. The top-three winners will get a choice of showcasing their works and exploring their creative talents through a series of workshops.
"In 2006, we saw some stunning creations including winner Jalal Abuthina's The Awakening – a photography book on life," says Harb. "My personal favourite though, was My Dream – where the contestant built a 50cm structure comprising a ladder and a platform where a boy, a girl and their dog are set to take off in a plane."
More than 179 applications have already poured in, and Harb expects the figure to cross 300 in the next few weeks. So here is your chance to create a whole new art movement. The question is, are you up for the challenge?
