All set for a Killer gig

One of the most anticipated gigs of the year is finally here. Las Vegas quartet The Killers play this Tuesday night at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi, and judging by the demand ticketing websites have been receiving, the show is very close to a sell-out.

Timeouttickets.com has sold out both the Dh695 Killer Tent and Dh295 categories, with only the Dh595 front pit standing tickets now available, while Boxofficeme.com has a limited number of Dh595 and Dh295 tickets available. Needless to say, if you still haven't bought yours yet, now's the time.

Meanwhile, to give you something to do on the way to the concert on Tuesday, here's a bit of trivia about the band to impress your friends with.

There's four of them. The Killers formed in 2002 and comprise frontman Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr.

They consider themselves lucky. The band's debut album, Hot Fuss, was originally recorded as a demo. That record, which spawned the hit singles, Somebody Told Me, Mr Brightside, All These Things That I've Done, and Smile Like You Mean It went on to sell over three million copies.

The band has released three more albums since their 2004 debut. These are 2006's Sam's Town, Sawdust in 2007, and finally, 2008's Day & Age.

The Killers have released 19 singles so far. But according to an interview with MTV, they revealed that Read My Mind was their favourite one.

They're superstitious. Well, sort of. The band members do a pre-show ritual, affectionately called "The Cuddle". Flowers was once quoted as saying: "We all join together in a circle before we go onstage... Even our feet touch, which is something I just kind of noticed. It's kind of like a soccer coach talking to the kids." Aww.

Brandon Flowers has an addiction... To Red Bull. In an interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, the lead singer mentioned that he drinks the caffeine-loaded drink before going on stage, because it makes him feel nervous, and he likes nervous energy before going on stage.

They work with some big names. The band's music video for the single Bones was directed by none other than Tim Burton. That production marked Burton's music video directing debut.

They're big in Japan. Somebody Told Me is apparently a popular choice for the music in anime music videos.

Brandon Flowers can't see himself doing anything else but make music. In an interview with a magazine, the vocalist said: "Music makes my blood flow. I don't know anyone who doesn't have a favourite song. I just want to be the messenger."
