Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a thing of the past as new- age guinea pigs come to the world's rescue in this comedy by Jerry Bruckheimer and Walt Disney Pictures.
The Hoyt Yeatman-directed G-Force is also the first live-action movie to be produced in Disney Digital 3D, not including concert films Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.
So what makes a bunch of super-trained furballs more entertaining than your classic heroes in a half-shell?
The all-star cast for one. Featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Penélope Cruz and Steve Buscemi, Disney seems to have placed all their eggs in one basket for this entertainer. And somehow, it delivers.
A team of trained secret agent animals are handpicked to save humanity from billionaire Leonard Saber (Bill Nighy) who plans to destroy the world using household appliances. You've got to admire the innovative plot.
Team leader Darwin (Rockwell), along with martial arts expert Juarez (Cruz), wea-pons whiz Blaster (Tracy Morgan), cyber intelligence mole Speckles (Cage) and high-tech surveillance guru Mooch (Edwin Louis) are the G-Force picked for the job.
But evil forces are at play and before our furry friends can pivot on their paws and run for the hills, their operation is shut down by the government and they are sentenced to life in a pet shop.
However, the elite G-Force refuses to stand down. Regrouping with their new friends Hurley (Jon Favreau) and hamster Bucky (Buscemi) they put their best paw forward to save mankind.
Writers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley pepper the script with enough wit to keep us entertained.
