Norway's curlers hope two-time Major golf winner John Daly's passion for garish, brightly-patterned trousers can inspire them to Olympic gold.

The men's team trained at the Vancouver Olympic Centre on Sunday wearing blue, grey, white and red diamond-patterned golf pants, which have been bought from the same company that supplies Daly.

"Well the story is one of our players was supposed to hook us up with some new pants and he brought us these," said skipper Thomas Ulsurd. "We said, 'no way, we're just wearing them to practise in'. But on TV [During the Olympic Curling competition] Well we might wear them then. I guess we have to have a team meeting and see what happens."

If curling traditionalists are stunned by the move, they will be shocked to hear about the back-up wardrobe of the Norwegians.

"We have other pairs of pants like this as well, they just don't have the blue colour, they are just red and grey," said Ulsurd.

Team member Christoffer Svae, who helped kit out the team, was also the inspiration behind the Norwegians wearing pink belts at some tournaments last year.
