Wildlife photography exhibition to focus on UAE biodiversity

To mark the International Year of Biodiversity 2010, the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) will hold a wildlife photography exhibition from March 3.

Titled "Abu Dhabi Wildlife Photography Exhibition", the exhibition, which will coincide with the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2010, aims to increase the public's awareness on UAE's unique biodiversity.

More than 100 photographs by professional photographers will be on display in the travelling exhibition from March 3 to 7, which will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (Adnec). The images will remain on display until March 7, before continuing on their way around Abu Dhabi.

The exhibition will travel to Al Ain and be held at Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort from March 21 to 25 and will then move to the Western Region (Al Gharbia) from April 12 to 16.

The organisation of this exhibition is within the framework of the international partnership agreement that EAD signed with Wildscreen in 2008. Wildscreen is a conservation charity that has collected one of the world's largest international wildlife photographic databases. EAD is principal sponsor of Wildscreen international ARKive. EAD support this charity to help raise awareness of Abu Dhabi's threatened biodiversity and conservation programmes.

Majid Al Mansouri, EAD's Secretary-General, said that "through our partnership with Wildscreen, we are seeking to document our precious endangered species here in the UAE. Together we are raising awareness about species in the UAE that are threatened with extinction by researching and profiling them on ARKive, one of Wildscreen's flagship initiatives that works to audio- visually profile the world's most endangered species, as well as the rich biodiversity of the UAE."

Dick Emery, Wildscreen's Chairman, said "with vast experience of working with the wildlife filmmaking industry, scientists, conservationists and educators, Wildscreen are well placed to help the UAE use films and photographs to promote the natural world".
