The 12th Water Technology, Energy and Environment Exhibition (Wetex) 2010 will start today and run till March 11. The three-day event will be opened by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).

It will feature free workshops/forums on green building and environment-friendly technologies, renewable energy, wastewater reuse and the future of the industry in the Middle East region. Visitors at the event will have free valet parking.

Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa, said the number of companies exhibiting in the event has increased by nine per cent – from 450 to 490 – and main sponsors have gone up to 10 from last year's eight.

"The number of ministries, municipalities, government departments and public service associations participating at the show has exceeded our expectations," said Al Tayer, adding that the participating companies represent establishments from 23 countries.

The show will be held at the Zaabeel hall of Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan.
