A recycling scheme offering cash for old mobile phones has been launched by Emax, the electronics arm of Landmark Group.

Emax will accept any mobile – in working condition or broken – and pay customers instant cash in return, and arrange for it to be recycled. Units that are damaged beyond repair can be given for recycling but without the cash reward. Phones range in value – with some worth as much as Dh1,500.

The 'Cash for Mobiles' offer is available at all Emax "big box" electronics concept stores in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, where special collection centres have been set up.

Trained staff will assess the condition of each phone and produce a valuation. The simple check takes two to three minutes and then a cash offer is made to the customer. Once the customer agrees on the value and cash reward, the SIM and memory cards are removed and returned to the customer. All SIM, memory card and mobile phone data on the unit is erased using special software to ensure security, before the mobile is reconditioned and restored.

Customers can log on to www.cashformobiles.me to check the possible value range of their old mobile phones, before visiting the Emax collection centres.

"We believe this unique offer of cash for old mobile phones is a great way for people to unlock the recycled value of their old mobile phones, whether they are working or not," said Neelesh Bhatnagar, CEO, Emax. "We are working with specialists in collection and recycling. It's all part of our commitment to make Emax the region's pre-eminent electronics retailer."
