A golfing society will hold a special collection drive at its annual tournament this weekend for an Indian expatriate who is unable to pay for surgery to restore his eyesight.

Members of the Filipino Golfers in the Middle East (Figme) will take to the greens of Sadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi on Friday to help Cruz Dev Prasad, who recently lost the use of his eyes overnight due to a rare medical condition.

Each golfer participating in the tournament will donate between Dh5 to Dh10 for every hole that they score zero points on in the Stableford format, organisers have said. Prasad, who suffers from a condition called "bilateral cortical infarcts", needs to raise an additional Dh30,000 for the treatment.

The medical and administrative staff from The City Hospital in Dubai will join in in the fundraising event called "Clash of Titans".

Ramon Naveau, Chairman, Figme, said the success of previous events have demonstrated how sport can be used to raise awareness about different causes and make a difference.

"We are hoping that this tournament will be even more successful than last year's and look forward to welcoming more organisations and individuals to compete in the future," Naveau said.
